Maine Lobster by the Penobscot in Bangor

Fresh lobster at the Muddy Rudder by the Penobscot River couldn't be better. It's about 3 hours south of Caribou, Maine where I've been for last 10 days with the Red Cross.
Caribou is named for the woodland Caribou, which feeds on lichen in mature, old growth forests. It's an area where the people are independent, grow potatos, and enjoy a scenic, glacier carved landscape. Thinly populated Aroostock county is huge and tucked up as far north and east as one can go in the US. New Brunswick, Canada is a short walk across the St. Johns river bridge at several border points.

Morning in Maine east of Mt. Katahdin

Patten, Maine 04765:
Relaxing with coffee while waiting on French toast at only deli in town. About 20 miles east of Mt. Katahdin and Baxter State Park. The peaks are still covered with snow and I'll get as close as I can today. That's 20 miles as the crow flies, at least 60 by road.
